Double Olympic champion Matt Wearn OAM OLY has claimed his fourth Australian Male Sailor of the Year title, leading a successful night for the Australian Sailing Team at the 2026 Australian Sailing Awards in Sydney. Wearn was joined among the award winners by Australian Sailing Squad iQFOiL sailor Rory Meehan, named Noakes Group Male Youth Sailor of the Year for the second time, while Wearn’s coach, Rafa Trujillo OLY, secured his third consecutive Coach of the Year award.

The iQFOiL World Championships will get underway next week in Weymouth, United Kingdom and for the Australian Sailing Team, attention will be firmly on a mix of established international performers and some of the country’s emerging iQFOiL talent, with the fleet set for six days of high-speed racing on the waters that hosted the sailing events at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Queenslander Rory Meehan has been awarded a Sport Australia Hall of Fame’s 2026 Tier 3 Scholarship for 2026. The 18-year-old iQFOiL sailor is grateful to be awarded the scholarship as a representative of sailing and embraces the additional support as he chases his Olympic dream.
