It's Tokyo Time!

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will commence on Friday 23 July 2021, with the first sailing fleet races commencing on Sunday the 25th. Japan's friendly time zone is going to give Australian audiences the perfect opportunity to tune in and cheer our sailors home to glory. Here we have compiled all the information you will need to follow, support and celebrate the performances of our athletes in Tokyo.

WHEN

The Tokyo Olympics will commence with the opening ceremony on Friday 23 July and officialy end at the closing ceremony on Sunday 8 August. The sailing wil take place across eleven days from Sunday 25 July to Wednesday 4 August with medal races happening across the last five days of competition.

WHERE

Sailing at the Tokyo Olympics will be held at the Enoshima Yacht Harbour, which is located in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The venue was constructed for use at the 1964 Games, and is the site of Australia's first Olympic gold medal in sailing after Bill Northam CBE, Pod O’Donnell and Dick Sargeant sailed Barranjoey to victory at Tokyo 1964.

HOW TO WATCH

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be broadcast in Australia by Channel 7, with action shown across their three free-to-air digital TV channels including 7, 7TWO, and 7mate. 

The 7plus app will have over 40 channels streaming live action from the Games. To view sailing, simply log in to the app on your smartphone, tablet or smart TV, go to the Olympics section and browse the streams to find sailing. You will then be able to watch the action live and uninterrupted. On your computer right now the best place to go is 7plus.com.au/Olympics.

Those watching from their phone app can also stream the action on to a big screen using a Chromecast or other similar casting device.

HOW TO FOLLOW

With broadcast options limited, the Australian Sailing Team social media accounts will be the best way to stay across the latest happenings in Tokyo and to show your support.

We are encouraging all Aussie sailing fans to use the #GoAusSailors on your social media posts to show your support for the team throughout the Games. The best messages each day will be collated and printed off for the athletes to read at their Tokyo base.

We will also be selecting the two best messages at the conclusion of the Games to win one of two great prizes:

  • A signed team rashie
  • A framed team photo

Please include photos of you and your team decked out in Green and Gold cheering on your team with your posts.
