Wearn picks up where he left off after day one of Sail Sydney

2018 Australian Sailing Male Sailor of the Year award winner Matt Wearn has picked up where he left off, leading a competitive fleet of Laser sailors after the first day of competition at this year’s Sail Sydney regatta. Six distinguished athletes were honoured with the Barranjoey Pin

Current athletes and coaches from the Australian Sailing Team received a unique honour this week, when they were the latest group of eligible sailors to receive their Barranjoey Pin. The presentation happened at the National Training Centre at Middle Harbour Yacht Club, where seven distinguished athletes were presented with their uniquely numbered Pins to recognise their sailing achievements.

I think it is fair to say that it was very much appreciated by all and sundry, whether they were competitors, or part of the large flotilla of spectators who took to Moreton Bay to witness the crowning of a new champion.

Australian sailing heroes receive Barranjoey Pins in moving ceremony

Twenty-seven of Australia’s sailing heroes gathered last week to be inducted to Australian Sailing’s new alumni program and receive their Barranjoey Pin. There were world and Olympic gold medallists along with America’s Cup and Admiral’s cup legends amongst the list of inductees at the packed event at the Australian National Maritime Museum.
